AN ODE TO HUMAN MEMORIES ON EARTH

This poem has been created by Erin Lindsay using only text from poems created by community participants of the One Planet Countless Worlds project with DDO Library. These were created based on participants’ memories of natural places on planet Earth that are significant to them.

I remember the wind. Ice. A tree.
The sea. Water in patches
And a cow grazing.

Seagulls. Triangles. Anticipation.
Untouched singing. Water at the poles.
And every pedestrian in Winter.

I remember the otter. Sand. Mid-summer.
Orange. Snow accumulating.
And the start.

Fishing. Grass. Lips.
Frogs. Burrs stuck to clothes.
And the silence of Winter.

I remember houses. Orange. A chorus.
The picnic. Under my feet the way I felt,
And the laughter.

I remember the finish. Azure. A chorus.
Ocean at the other pole. Air
And the hike.

Spring screeching. Lake friends.
Blue. Gathering. Purified lungs
And the anticipation heaps.

I remember the travel. Fresh. Cold.
Gently falling. Lake breaking
And the drive to New York.

Azure comfort. Breeze floating.
Warm. Away. Crisp, beautiful,
And the cool grass.

I remember: patches, fishing,
feet, lungs, ice, travel, Spring,
water, water, water, water,
poles, air, houses, Winter, singing,
Wind, wind, clothes, wind, pedestrians,
otter, empty, cow, burrs, New York, heaps,
weather, finish, lake.

I remember the sound of what was left behind.
I remember the way I felt.
