WORKSHOP 1
Created via a series of prompts where participants had to remember a meaningful place on Earth. They were then led through a sensory guided meditation that invited them to imagine a fictional planet. These are responses to a juxtaposition of memories of a real place (I remember), and a fictional imagined planet or place (Here I see.)
WANDA
I jump. “Sorry,” I say.
I remember an island I once loved. It was familiar and happy.
Now, I see a planet laid out before me; aliens unknown, a clash of garish colours.
I remember how safe and secure I was on my island. Now I am unsure and ruthless.
Nothing is familiar. I remember losing my island. Now I query myself: “When did this new planet become familiar?”
I remember swimming in the cool green waters of my island.
Now, I haven’t yet found signs of water here. Where is the orange scented coral? I remember the sea-doos.
Thick gooey mud, not unpleasant.
This air is mud. I am unsure. It snows thicker.
Feels like mud. Reach the cliff top and look down: blue, yellow, orange turquoise.
I remember falling asleep to the sound of wind in the jack pines.
I remember a warm secure home.
This mysterious purple sky planet.
